  • Lesson 3 — adding borders
  • Lesson 4 — layering and pin basting your quilt top, and machine quilting
  • Lesson 5 — finishing it up with binding

Supply List

Supplies are available at Be Sew Bizzy, and students in this class receive a 10% discount on their class supplies.

Fabric

Please avoid fabric with directional prints.

  • 1 yard — featured fabric (the pink print in the pictured quilt)
  • 3/4 yard — coordinate fabric (the white floral print)
  • 3/8 yard — accent fabric (the blue paisley print)
  • 1 1/3 yards — backing fabric (not visible in the picture)
  • 3/8 yard — binding fabric (not easily visible in the picture)
  • 45" x 45" — 100% cotton batting

You may choose 3–5 different fabrics including the backing and binding. Some prefer that the backing and binding match; others prefer including more coordinating fabrics.

Basic Sewing Supplies

  • Sewing machine with manual, one you are familiar with
  • 1/4" foot for your sewing machine
  • Walking foot (needed by lesson 4)
  • Cutting mat, at least 24" wide (recommended)
  • Rotary cutter (45mm is the typical size; if you are left handed, look for one that can be set right or left)
  • Rulers (recommended): 6 1/2" x 24" and 6 1/2" x 6 1/2"
  • Microtex sharp needles size 70
  • Hand needles size 10 (lesson 5, hand binding)
  • 100% cotton piecing thread
  • Ultra fine patchwork pins (glass head, the kind you can iron over)
  • Quilt safety pins — there are several types; wonder clips are another option (lesson 4)
  • Purple Thang (required by the first class)
  • Seam ripper
  • Fabric scissors
  • Measuring tape
  • Note pad
  • Mechanical pencil and eraser
  • Calculator
  • Masking tape
  • Ziploc bags for scraps

Please Note

The teacher is teaching you how to make a quilt, not how to use your sewing machine. To get the most out of the class, please know how to use your sewing machine before you come and make sure it is in good working order. Review your owner's manual and a few YouTube videos, and please learn to wind a bobbin.
